Introduction

The Berkeley Public Library Central Branch is located at 2090 Kittredge Street, Berkeley, California. The children’s library occupies the entire fourth floor, and includes a dedicated programming room. The Central Branch employs six children’s librarians. It serves an ethnically and racially diverse community and is heavily used. In fiscal year 2009–2010, the latest year for which data are available, the Berkeley Public Library system recorded over 1.5 million visits and circulated over 2 million items. In the same year the Library held over 1,200 programs for children (Berkeley Public Library, 2010).

This plan lays out programs to be held at the Central Branch in calendar year 2013. It is a proposal created by Sara Meldrum of the San Jose State University School of Library and Information Science and is subject to approval by the Central Children’s Library Supervisor, the Director, and the Board of Library Trustees.

The Summary page contains a table outlining the programming schedule for the year and a summary of costs. Each of the programs is described in detail on its own page. Each month’s/country’s activities is described in detail on its own page.
