Displays

Displays rotate on a monthly basis and reflect country themes. There are two types of displays: book displays and country displays. The website Travel for Kids is a good source of ideas for books to display. Patrons create the country displays in consultation with librarians. Librarians recruit one patron (preferably a child or child-parent team) from each theme country to design a display that showcases his or her national identity. Displays include the patrons’ own special objects and photos and/or items purchased or made especially for the displays. The creators also write descriptions of the various objects and their significance. The creators are reimbursed up to $50 for money spent on creating their displays. These displays are kept in a locked glass case in full view of the children’s staff desk.
