The
book club is for children in grades four to six. It is held after school on the
second Tuesday of the month, from 4 to 5 PM. At the meetings the book club
members, led by a children’s librarian, discuss the previous month’s book. Each
book reflects the theme of the month (i.e., it takes place in the country of
the month or its main character originates from the country of the month). I
have carefully selected book club books that appeal to children, both girls and
boys, with a variety of interests. Registration is required for the book club as
space is limited. The Library purchases 15 paperback copies of each month’s
book for distribution to participants. The monthly budget for the book club is
$150, as each book costs approximately $10 on Amazon.com. It is possible that
by working with the Library’s vendors to purchase the books this cost can be
reduced.
