Early
literacy workshops will be held on the first and third Saturdays in February
and March and on the first Saturday in April. The first session is for parents
only, and is scheduled at the same time as a music program for kids; the rest
are for parents and children together and replace science/art/music programs
for those weeks. Librarians present workshops from the Every Child Ready to
Read 2 (ECRR2) curriculum.
The workshops are: the introductory parent-only workshop, Fun with Parents and Children, Fun with Letters, Fun with Words, and Fun with Science and Math. The first workshop introduces parents to early literacy skills and the activities that help children develop them. The following workshops give parents ideas and practice for working on early literacy skills at home (American Library Association, 2011).
The ECRR2 kit comes with everything needed to present the workshops, including slides and presentation notes, handouts, and marketing materials. The cost for the kit is $200 (American Library Association, 2011).
